One of the most important tasks for any sewing project is verifying the bottom bobbin is correctly threaded. If this task is not accomplished the stitches will be loose and the thread will most likely break. Avoiding these problems is as simple as remembering that bobbins turn counterclockwise.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Verify that the bobbin being inserted is completely filled with thread. This will ensure maximum use before the next bobbin loading.

  2. Step 2

Raise the presser foot by using the switch in back of it.

  3. Step 3

Manually turn the hand wheel so that the needle is in the highest possible position. This will provide sufficient room to maneuver and load the bobbin.

  4. Step 4

Open up the slide plate by moving it forward. The slide plate is located under the pressure foot. Remove the empty bobbin.

  5. Step 5

Pull out around 4 inches of thread from the new bobbin and place the bobbin into the case so that it spins counterclockwise when the thread is pulled.

  6. Step 6

Hold the bobbin still with your finger and guide the thread into the first notch. The thread should be under the bobbin case. Then guide the thread through the second notch. The second notch is to the left of the first.

  7. Step 7

Pull out around 7 inches of thread, tugging in a backward diagonal fashion toward the back of the machine.

  8. Step 8

Hold the thread outside the slide plate with one hand and gently slide the plate back into position. The thread should extend through the slot between the slide and needle plate.
