How to Create Free Printable Birthday Cards
Greeting cards are expensive, and with so many birthdays throughout the year, it can become difficult to buy a new card for each person. Instead, make your own birthday cards using your computer and printer at home. Create any design you like in just a few minutes without spending a dime.

Launch any graphic design software on your computer, such as Adobe Photoshop, Photo Paint or Picture It. Open a new document and set the size to 8.5 inches by 5.5 inches.

Select a background color from the color palette, and use the paint bucket tool or the background fill tool to fill the card with color.

Insert photos or clip art to the card. Most graphic design software comes preloaded with several clip art options. Choose balloons, party hats or cakes for your birthday card.

Add a border to the card using the shapes tool or the line tool. Choose a color that complements the clip art or background color.

Type a birthday greeting in the blank space using the text tool. Use phrases, poetry, personal messages or standard birthday greetings like "Happy Birthday" or "Best Wishes on Your Birthday." Change the color of the font by selecting a new color on the color palette.
The Inside & Printing

Open a new document in the same size in order to design the inside of your birthday card.

Use the text tool to type a message on the inside of the card. Type whom the card is for at the top, your personal message in the center and whom the card is from at the bottom of the card.

Add a small shape or clip art to fill in any excessive, blank space around the text.

Place card stock into the printer as directed by the manufacturer, then select print in your graphic design software. Set the printing paper size to half letter or 8.5 inches by 5.5 inches, and select best quality printing. Click print to complete the printing process.

Fold the birthday card in half and place inside an envelope to mail it.
