How to Replace a Bathroom Vent Fan
When the bathroom fan does not seem to be working efficiently or is too noisy, it may need to be replaced. Before purchasing a new bathroom fan, measure the size of the bathroom, and buy one that can handle the bathroom size. Once you know how to replace a bathroom vent fan, you can have the new one installed in a couple of hours. Does this Spark an idea?

Disconnect the power to the bathroom vent by turning off the circuit breaker.

Insert a flathead screwdriver between the cover plate and the ceiling, and unsnap the cover plate from the vent housing.

Remove the motor by unscrewing the attaching screws with a screwdriver. Check the wires with a circuit tester to confirm that the power is off. Disconnect the wires from the motor by either unscrewing the terminal screws or unsnapping the plastic quick connect harness.

Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the housing into the ceiling. Carefully lower the housing, and remove the vent duct from the bathroom fan by unscrewing the clamp.

Use a screwdriver to loosen the electrical cable clamp on the housing. Slide the cable out, and set the old housing out of the way.

Insert the new housing into the hole in the ceiling. Mark the attaching screw holes with a pencil, and remove the housing.

Use a drill to drill holes where you have marked. Insert plastic anchors into the holes.

Insert the electrical cable into the new housing, and tighten the cable clamp down. Attach the vent duct to the dryer vent, and secure it with the clamp.

Insert the new housing into the ceiling, and secure it by installing screws into the plastic anchors.

Connect the wires to the new motor housing by either securing the wires to the screw terminals or using a quick connect connection. Secure the motor to the housing by attaching it with the supplied hardware.

Snap the vent cover over the housing. Reconnect the power supply to the bathroom vent by turning the circuit breaker back on.

Tips & Warnings
Sometimes when you purchase a kit, you can simply replace the motor assembly and won't need to remove the housing.
Always disconnect the power before working with electrical wires.
