Instructions

    • 1

Put the seed potatoes in your box, root end down. Leave them for a week or two at room temperature, making sure they get a lot of light.

    • 2

Cut the potato into small squares after it has sprouted "eyes." Each cut should contain at least one "eye" (also known as a sprout). Set aside overnight.

    • 3

Dig holes in your garden. Wear gloves, and use your trowel to dig. The holes should be placed 15 inches apart; rows should be 4 feet apart.

    • 4

Place a potato seed inside each hole and cover it with dirt.

    • 5

Add fertilizer to the top of the soil.

    • 6

Water your potatoes. Continue to water every morning. You can stop watering after the potato seeds have created a plant, flowered and then died back.

    • 7

Loosen the soil around the plant when you are ready to harvest your potatoes. Digging with your fingers will help break up the dirt.

    • 8

Remove the potatoes from the soil underneath the plant by simply lifting them out.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can begin planting your potato seeds in spring once the ground has softened.

  • Do not plant a new crop of potatoes in the same place you planted them before. Potatoes can attract parasites, so plant in different areas each season.
