Toothache, or odontalgia, is severe pain in a particular tooth and the area surrounding it. Sources of toothache may be a cavity or fissure in the enamel, disease of the gum, jaw problems, or the arrival of a wisdom tooth. With today’s preventive dentistry, such as education in dental hygiene, fluoride and regular care, toothaches are much less common than in previous generations. Toothaches are often sudden in onset and herbal cures can be a great relief until a dental appointment is scheduled.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Drip clove oil or apply ground clove onto the afflicted tooth. This natural toothache remedy is one of the most well known of all herbal toothache remedies.

  2. Step 2

Use Echinacea tincture to relieve tooth pain. Echinacea is an herbal remedy for several maladies, including toothache. Echinacea has been called the “toothache plant.”

  3. Step 3

Make a paste from equal parts of asafetida and limejuice. Apply this paste to the painful tooth as needed. This is another herbal remedy that is believed to relieve toothache.

  4. Step 4

Crush a clove of garlic and place the crushed garlic onto the affected tooth. Garlic is another effective herb for temporary relief of the pain of toothache.

  5. Step 5
