Whether you have shared years with your loved one only to have him wanting a divorce or spent years loving someone who has never shared your feelings, it can be extremely difficult to let the person you love go. It is important to remember, however, that letting go of the person you love is often not only the best thing for that other person, but also the best thing for yourself.

Understand the reasons why you need to let him go. Getting a complete understanding of why the love between the two of you will never work out is an important part of moving on. Be honest with yourself about the reasons and convince yourself that you have already tried everything you could to keep him around.

Consider whether or not she actually makes you happy. Ask yourself whether or not she cares about you as much as you care about her. Realize that you deserve someone who is going to love you through the good times and the bad times just as you love her.

Talk about how you feel in the letters and about how difficult it is for you to move on. While writing, you will most likely begin to realize that letting go was the best thing to do.

Communicate with your family and friends about the struggles you are facing instead of trying to get into contact with her. Letting the one you love go is about making a clean break from her. You need to completely remove yourself from her life in order to let her go.

Focus on yourself. Sign up for a class you were always interested in taking. Spend time with that long novel you never had a chance to read before. Concentrate on making yourself into a better person.
