How to visit a Greek Bazaar on Long Island, New York

Every year on the weekend after Labor Day, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, sponsors a Bazaar. This three day event features Greek food, delicious desserts, music, dancing, games and rides. There is something for the entire family.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Getting there...Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church is located on Field Avenue, in Hicksville, NY 11801. Getting there by car is the easiest, LIE to South Oyster Bay Road South for about 4 miles. Field Avenue several blocks south of Old Country Road. Or take the LIRR to Hicksville, the church is about 1.5 miles away and a short cab ride.

  2. Step 2

    The food...If you love Greek food you have found the place! Each night the Taverna offers delicious Greek specialties such as Moussaka, Spanakopitta(Spinach Pie,) Souvlaki with yogurt sauce and salads with feta cheese. After dinner enjoy sweet, rich desserts covered with honey and walnuts such as Baklava and Kadaifi. Wash it down with deep rich Greek coffee.

  3. Step 3

    The fun...There are rides for the children, games of chance and a raffle for a new car. The Flea Market offers attic treasures such as toys, household decorative items and glassware. The Greek boutique has new items for sale...t-shirts, flags and the blue glass eyes that ward off the "evil" eye. Make sure you pick one up for everyone you love.

  4. Step 4

    The culture...Take a tour of the interior of the church. It is a beautiful example of the Byzantine style of Orthodox interiors. There are many beautiful icons. Schedule your visit to watch the Greek dancing by the children of the church. Traditionally dressed and eager to please the children dance authentic Greek circle dances.
