How to Cope with Vertigo

Living with vertigo can be hard. I know because I suffer from versions of it.
There are things you can do to help live with vertigo and some exercises you can use to help train your eyes if the problem is there.

      If your vertigo is related to depth perception problems, then there are easy exercises you can do to help with your eyes. The first is a test that involves taking two pieces of paper. On one sheet, draw a picture of a large round circle. On the other sheet, draw a smaller circle.

      Take the two sheets of paper and place them on different walls in front of you. Sit in a chair and stare at the small circle, then look quickly to the larger circle. Continue doing this exercise for several minutes. Make sure you do not get sick or nauseous. If you start to feel dizzy...stop immediately. You want to do this exercise up to the point until you are about to feel dizzy. Do this as often as you can throughout the day.

      Another great exercise that I have found excellent to try is going downtown, find a busy street and park in a parking lot next to the busy street. Watch the traffic going back and forth. Focus on as many cars as you can. Remember, do not go past the point of feeling sick. You'll learn by both of these exercises that in time, you'll be able to go longer without stopping for sickness.

  • If you choose the exercise of watching traffic, then I would advise taking someone to drive with you.
