Select a computer with a sturdy case that allows for easy expansion. At minimum, the case should have internal bays for extra hard drives in case you want to expand the storage capacity. The motherboard also determines how you can expand the computer; if it has empty RAM slots, you can expand the memory without removing the memory already included. A second video card slot allows you to use multiple video cards simultaneously for improved gaming performance. A sturdy case isolates vibration and minimizes the computer's noise level.

Narrow your search to a computer with a dedicated nVidia or ATI video card. Integrated video chips, common in low-cost computers, utilize a portion of the system memory.
