How to Get Rid of Yahoo Messenger

Yahoo! Messenger is one of the most popular instant-messaging programs on the web. The service was introduced in 1998 as Yahoo! Pager, but the name was later changed to Yahoo! Messenger. Yahoo! Messenger primarily competes with MSN Messenger (also known as Windows Live Messenger), which is offered by Microsoft. If you do not have a need for Yahoo! Messenger anymore or just want to get rid of it, you can learn how to completely remove it from your computer.

Instructions
  1. Step 1
    Make sure Yahoo! Messenger is closed.

    Locate the Yahoo! Messenger icon on your desktop taskbar, usually located on the lower right-hand side of the screen. Right-click the icon and choose "Exit" to close the program.

  2. Step 2
    Select Yahoo! Messenger from the program list.

    Enter your Start Menu and choose "Control Panel." Click on the "Add or Remove Programs" icon. Some versions will say "Uninstall a Program." Once the list is populated, scroll down to find the Yahoo! Messenger program. Right-click the Icon and choose "Uninstall."

    The status bar will tell you when the process is complete.

    Wait for the prompt and choose "OK" or "Continue" to begin removing the program. A status bar will pop up showing you the progress of the uninstall. Wait patiently for the program to finish.
