How to Create a League Schedule
Running a sporting league, whether it is a pick-up league, a semi-professional league or even just a fantasy league, can be a tiresome activity with many tasks to be completed. Many commissioners find creating a schedule which fits their need to be one of the most frustrating endeavors they must partake, however with the appropriate steps it can be handled with minimal stress.

1
Determine the number of teams your league will have. You can hold open sign-ups or limit the number of teams to a set amount; however, it is important that you know how many teams you will have before beginning to plan your schedule.
-
2
Assign every team in your league a number from one to the total number of teams in your league.
-
-
3
Consider the number of divisions your league will have (if any).
-
4
Determine how many rounds or weeks of play your league will have.
-
5
Decide how the number of rounds to fill will be allocated for teams. Specifically, focus on if teams will have rest rounds where they don't play, how many times they will play teams that are in their division and how many times they will play teams in other divisions.
-
6
Cut enough slips of paper to have one slip for each game in your league's season, and large enough to write "# v. #" on. The number of slips will be the number of teams multiplied by the number of games a team plays in a season, divided by two.
-
7
Label each slip of paper with one match-up which will be played over the course of the season, until each game is represented on a slip.
-
8
Arrange the slips into a number of groups equal to the number of rounds that will be played, with no number appearing in the same group twice. Having a physical representation of the game to move by hand makes it easier to spot doubles and correct them.
-
9
Create your schedule by replacing the numbers with the teams they represent, with each group representing one round.
