How to Fix My Strached Plastic Eyeglasses
Prescription plastic lenses for glasses are lightweight and expensive. These lenses are coated with a scratch-resistant coating and sometimes a UV coating. With regular use, however, plastic lenses can get scratched. Before throwing out the lenses and purchasing new ones, try removing scratches with an etching cream available at craft stores. This solution can prolong the life of your glasses and save time and money by reducing the number of costly replacement lenses and visits to the eye doctor.
Things You'll Need
- Cotton swabs
- Armour-Etch cream
- Water
- Soft cotton towel
- Lens cleaning cloth
- Optional: Latex gloves, timer

Clean and dry your plastic lenses with water. Dip the cotton swab into the Armour Etch container and carefully apply to the lens surface that's scratched.

Wait four to five minutes and thoroughly rinse off the etching cream with water until clear. Do not rub the lens.

Gently dry the lenses and look through them to see whether the plastic is clear. If the plastic is not clear, reapply Armour Etch with a clean cotton swab and let it sit for a minute before rinsing clear and drying. (Reapplication may be needed for up to three times.)

Polish the lenses with a lens cleaning cloth.

Tips & Warnings
Be patient when applying, rinsing and checking the lens because you can potentially save hundreds of dollars in replacement lenses if the process works. Consider using this application to clear scratches from your favorite pair of sunglasses.
Armour Etch has been used only on plastic lenses (not glass). Armour Etch will remove the plastic coating from the lens so more glare may be observed during wear. Use latex gloves to avoid skin irritation.
