Things You'll Need:
- Notation software
-
Step 1
Make the treble and bass clefs. Treble clefs contain higher notes, while bass clefs contain lower notes. The bass clef is on the bottom, but depending on range, you may have two treble or two bass clefs (depending on instrument on composition). Put in a time signature, such as 4/4 for most music, 3/4 for waltzes and 2/4 for marches, among others.
-
Step 2
Add a key signature, which will determine the main notes to use. Insert notes and rests in each bar, and connect eight notes if they flow together. Remember to keep the notes in every bar, for both clefs, the same total length as the time signature.
-
Step 3
Put in chords (notes played simultaneously). Chords add more depth to a musical composition.
-
Step 4
Add dynamics such as pedal hold and release marks, playing directions like crescendo, music breaks and codas.
-
Step 5
Double check, fine tune and edit your music until you are satisfied. Save and print, and get ready to start playing.
