A diaper cake--diapers rolled, stacked and arranged to look like a tiered cake--is a popular baby shower centerpiece, and a new twist on the classic diaper cake is the pram-style carriage diaper cake. It consists of diapers and some other useful items for the baby and his new parents. If you're planning a baby shower or will be attending one soon, consider taking half an hour and making a baby carriage diaper cake for your friend.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 30 size 1 disposable diapers
  • Large rubber band
  • 5 burp cloths or large washcloths
  • Cake board or piece of sturdy cardboard
  • 3-inch wide lace or ribbon
  • 1-inch wide ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Plastic-lined bib
  • Small stuffed animal that sits upright
  • White medical tape (optional)
  1. Step 1

Stand 25 of the diapers against each other and place a rubber band around them so that they stand upright, with the patterned end at the top. The rubber band should be placed around the top half of the diapers so that it's easier to hide later. Drape the burp cloth or washcloth over the top of the diapers and tuck it into the rubber band, letting the ends hang down. Place the diapers onto a cake board or piece of cardboard.

  2. Step 2

Wrap a piece of 3-inch-wide lace or ribbon around the diapers to hide the rubber band. Cut the lace or ribbon so that it's long enough to tie a bow after wrapping around the diapers once. Create a bow at one of the ends of the row of diapers; this will be the back of the base of the carriage.

  3. Step 3

Turn the bib upside down (strings at the bottom) and set it on top of the "back" of the carriage, pointing upward. Tuck the strings and sides of the bib into the lace or ribbon. This will serve as the canopy of the carriage.

  4. Step 4

Add the last five diapers in front of the bib, on top of the burp cloth or washcloth, standing them like you did with the base. You may need to reshape the bib to allow it to curl over these diapers in the shape of a canopy.

  5. Step 5

Put the stuffed animal facing "forward," with its back against the row of five diapers. Wrap a length of 1-inch-wide ribbon around the bib, diapers and stuffed animal, tying a bow in front of the stuffed animal to secure it all in place.

  6. Step 6

Fold the other four burp cloths or washcloths in half and then in half again, lengthwise. You should end up with the cloth being longer than it is wide, not in the shape of a square. Roll the cloths into "wheels" and place them next to the base of the carriage, two on each side.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may need to tape the carriage and its wheels to the cake board or cardboard. You can use white medical tape, as it will be less likely to damage the diapers when the new mom removes them. You can also attach the wheels to the carriage base if necessary.
