Prepare Your Truck for Winter
Prepare Your Truck for Winter

During the winter your truck goes through a lot. Most people drive there cars in the summer, and the trucks in the winter. Before you rely on your truck, check it over and make sure everything is in perfect working order.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Antifreeze
  • Winter Windshield washer fluid.
  • Good tires
  • Sand bags
  • Blankets
  • Water
  • Flashlight
  • Winter emergency kit.
  1. Step 1

Check your tires, make sure you have at least 5/32 of tread wear left.
Check if your tires are rated for the type of weather you will be driving in. A lot of people have a set of summer tires for summer, and a set of winter tires, they change them out each season.
If you need new tires, go for some all terrain ones that will handle any weather. If you cannot afford new tires, look in the local classifieds, or on craigslist, and wait around and see if you can find a good deal on some good tires.

  2. Step 2

Check the mechanical condition of your vehicle, make sure everything is up to date on service. Make sure your 4X4 is working, if not have it inspected and fixed. Check the battery and the alternator and make sure they are in good working order, check the battery cables and if they are corroded, replace them, you don't want to get stuck in the winter with a car that wont start!

  3. Step 3

If you have a 2wd make sure you have a set of studded snow tires, or good rated snow tires front and rear. Also keep some sand bags handy, so you can throw them in the back when it gets icy to gain more traction.

  4. Step 4

Also to help preserve the condition of your vehicles paint, clay bar the paint, and put on a fresh coat of wax that will keep the elements out of your paint, and keeping it looking good for many years to come.

  5. Step 5

Make sure your windshield wipers, heater, and defroster are all working properly. Change your windshield washer fluid over to winter stuff. Also be prepared with a winter emergency kit, of at least a blanket, extra water, food, flashlight, and road flares.

Tips & Warnings
  • Protect your trucks paint during winter with a fresh coat of wax. Also when driving in an area of high road salt, wash it off as soon as you can as this will keep your vehicle from rusting later down the road.
  • If you cant afford new tires, look for a good set of used ones.
