You can always login to your Gmail account and check your mail.

But there are quite a few reasons you would want to add your Gmail account to Outlook.

Here is how you do it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gmail Account
  • Outlook
  1. Step 1

First you need to enable pop3 access to your Gmail account.
Login to your Gmail account and click Settings at the top right.
Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
Then Click the Enable POP for all mail and hit save changes button at the bottom.

  2. Step 2

Now you need to setup the account in Outlook.
In Outlook click Tools > Account Settings.
Under Account Settings click the Email Tab.
    Click the New... Button.

  3. Step 3

In the new windows enter your name, gmail email address and Gmail Account password.
Make sure the "Manually configure server settings......" is unchecked.
    Then click Next.
If you get green check boxes next to everything you are all ready and done.

If there are an red X's or any issues you will have to go in and manually configure the settings.

  4. Step 4

Here are all the settings you will need to configure the server settings manually:

    Email Address: Your Gmail address
    Incoming Mail Server: pop.gmail.com
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com (Note: Many ISP's today block custom outgoing mail servers. You might have to use their Outgoing mail servers)
User Name: Your Gmail email address

Click on the More Settings… and check the box on the Outgoing Server tab for “My outgoing server requires authentication”

On the Advanced tab, check the box that says “This server requires an encrypted connection” then change the fields to match these values:

    Incoming Server port number: 995
Check the box for “This server requires an encrypted connection”
    Outgoing Server port number: 587
