Skin tags are common skin growths that can affect people of all ages, but they normally occur in adulthood. They are generally benign and pose no threat to your overall health. Skin tags are most often found in areas where the skin rubs against itself or clothing, such as armpits, backs of the knees, eyelids, groins, necks and female breasts. They may be harmless, but many people want them removed because they are considered unattractive. Skin tag removal can usually be done without the help of a doctor.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dental floss
  • Tape
  1. Step 1

Cut a piece of dental floss long enough that it can wrap around the skin tag two times.
Put the floss at the base of the skin tag. Hold it in place with the forefinger of either hand. Keep in mind that you need to use your other hand, so you may need to hold the floss down with tape if the tag is in a hard to reach spot.

  2. Step 2

Wrap the floss around the skin tag two times. Get it as close to your body as possible for best results. Tie the two ends of the floss in a tight knot. It needs to be tight enough that it will not slip off the skin tag. This will cut off blood flow to the tag, which will ultimately kill it.

  3. Step 3

Leave the floss on until the skin tag falls off. It normally takes about three days, but it could be longer or shorter.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have somebody help you tie the floss on the skin tag. It will be easier for them to tie a good knot around it.
