How to Make Smores With the Sun for a Science Project
S'mores are tasty snacks that are especially popular around campfires. They are believed first to have been made by a group of Girl Scouts in the 1920s. It didn't take long for S'mores to gain popularity across the nation. The treats traditionally are made by melting a marshmallow over a fire and placing it between two graham crackers and a chocolate bar, but there are other methods for making them. With a couple common materials and the S'mores ingredients, you can make them using the power of the sun. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Graham crackers
- Thin chocolate bar (such as Hershey's original)
- Miniature marshmallows
- Glass casserole dish
- Aluminum foil
Instructions
-
-
1
Place two graham crackers side by side in the casserole dish.
-
2
Place pieces of the chocolate bar, close to the same size as the graham crackers, on top of each cracker.
-
-
3
Place two more graham crackers in the casserole dish.
-
4
Place six to eight miniature marshmallows on the new graham crackers. Position the marshmallows as close to the center as possible to ensure they don't fall off the edge.
-
5
Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil. The foil will help absorb and store heat in the dish.
-
6
Place the dish in a warm, sunny spot, as far away as possible from shade. Check the inside every five minutes. When the marshmallows and chocolate begin to melt, press the two halves of the S'mores together.
