How to Gift Wrap Wedding Favors

Personalizing your wedding favors is a simple way to bring color to the décor and add an intimate touch to your wedding reception. Some couples choose to spend a significant portion of their budget on favors by having them specially created and wrapped by a vendor. You can save quite a bit of money by setting aside a little time to purchase supplies to wrap them at home. This tutorial gives directions to complete one wrapped favor using a plain paper box that can be ordered inexpensively in bulk online. Adjust the amount of supplies according to your number of guests.

    • 1

Cut the organdy fabric into a 14-inch square and place the paper box in the center of the square. Pull the fabric together around the box and gather it at the top. Place a piece of tape around the gathered fabric to hold it in place.

    • 2

Take a piece of ribbon and cut it at least 9-inches long. Place one end of the ribbon on the taped gathered fabric on top of the box and tape it down to keep it secure.

    • 3

Wrap the ribbon around the gathered top at least twice. Slide the end of the ribbon through the last wrap around the top and pull through to let ribbon hang down the front of the box.

    • 4

Trim the end of the ribbon at a 45-degree angle. Place a decorative sticker on top of the ribbon to secure it.

    • 5

Use the pinking shears to trip the gathered top creating a zigzag edge. The result should be a organdy-covered box with ribbon hanging down the front and a sticker placed in the middle of the ribbon.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have more than one wedding color, choose the organdy fabric based on which color you want to stand out the most. Before gathering the fabric, consider layering a white piece of organdy over of the main color so that it peeks out the top when you're done. Order personalized stickers or try printing them out yourself to save some money. Many craft supply stores carry scrapbooking stickers that could work as well. Plan to transport these gathered top boxes to the reception in a way that won't crush or wrinkle the top. Allow plenty of time to complete the project so that you aren't stressed for time right before the big event. Consider inviting some of the bridal party and family members over for a wedding favor wrapping party.
