How to Use Jojoba for Treatment of Acne

Jojoba oil (Simmondsia chinensis) is widely available in health food stores and online for use in skincare and haircare. Technically a plant wax, jojoba oil can be used to cleanse, tone and moisturize the skin. Jojoba oil mimics the sebum released by your skin naturally. Use with essential oils such as tea tree oil, lavender and witch hazel to clear acne.

Steam clean your face once a week to help dry acne. Do not steam too frequently as that may worsen your acne. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Gently Cleanse the Face

    • 1

Mix 1 ounce of jojoba oil with 10 drops of lavender essential oil in a dark-colored glass bottle. Dab a small amount onto your clean hands and swipe over your face. Use clean cotton balls to remove excess.

    • 2

Pour about 3/4 cup of hot water into a small, stainless bowl. Dip a clean washcloth into it and drape over clean skin. Let it steam your face for about a minute and remove. Splash off with cool water.

    • 3

Using clean cotton balls, dab witch hazel onto your skin and sweep across the oily areas of your face: the forehead, tops of the cheekbones, nose bridge or chin.

Repeat two or three times more until the cotton balls do not show a dark color from removing skin impurities.

    • 4

Dab small amounts of tea tree oil directly on the areas of acne. If you have sensitive skin, dilute the tea tree oil in one part tea tree oil and two parts water. Moisturize your skin by smoothing on a very thin layer of jojoba over your face, keeping it out of eyes. Soak up excess with clean cotton balls.
