How to Find a State Inmate
If you are trying to locate an inmate currently incarcerated in a state prison, you have several resources. Many states allow you to search for an inmate from their Department of Corrections homepage. If your inmate is located in a state that doesn't offer that functionality, you can contact the state's Department of Corrections directly to obtain information. The type of information you can get varies from state to state, but it can include the inmate's photograph, conviction information, projected release date and the location of the prison where the inmate is incarcerated.

1
Find out if the inmate is located in a state that allows you to search their inmate database online. InmatesPlus.com is a free website that has compiled a link to each state's Department of Corrections. The site currently lists 41 states with online inmate locators and nine states that do not offer this service.
-
2
Click on the state where the inmate is located. If the link does not immediately direct you to the inmate locator, look for a link that directs you to inmate or offender information.

3
Enter at least the last name of the inmate in the search field and click on the search button. Search using as many details as you can to get the most targeted results.
