How to Cure Chronic Tendinitis

Tendinitis occurs when you have a form of inflammation or irritation in the tendons of your body. The tendons connect the muscles to the bones and are made of thick connective tissue. Although tendinitis is most common around the shoulders, wrist and feet, it can occur anywhere in the body. People with chronic tendinitis experience pain in their joints on a regular basis and will want to speak to their doctor about potential ways to cure the condition.

    • 1

Visit your doctor to determine what could be causing the chronic tendinitis. Although the tendinitis can occur as a result of an injury, chronic cases are usually caused by an inflammatory disease such as arthritis. A doctor will recommend imaging studies and blood work to determine diagnosis.

    • 2

Attend physical therapy sessions. Physical therapy can be used as a method to cure chronic tendinitis. The physical therapist will meet with you on a regular basis and recommend certain exercises to strengthen the affected joints.

    • 3

Work on reducing the swelling. Ice therapy can typically be used to treat chronic tendinitis and involves placing an ice pack wrapped in a towel on the affected joints. Leave the pack on for 15 to 30 minutes intervals every few hours until you find relief. When not using ice, wrap the area with an ace bandage to compress the tendons.

    • 4

Inquire about the use of steroid injections to cure the inflammation in the tendons. Injections of corticosteroid drugs into the inflamed tendons can relieve both the pain and inflammation.

    • 5

Take the time to rest. While treating the condition, make sure you properly rest the joints. For pain, your doctor will recommend an over-the-counter pain reliever such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
