Our records do follow us everywhere, or they can when necessary. You may need your high school records for a college or trade school application, or to enlist in the military. Or you could be replacing old records that got lost or damaged. School records, unfortunately for some, rarely disappear.

Instructions

    • 1

Look up your high school or school district contact information. This should be easy to find online or by scanning the white pages of your home town phone book. If you don't know the name of your school district or if your high school no longer exists, contact the City Hall of that town and ask them for the information.

    • 2

Contact the high school or school district and ask them for the procedure regarding obtaining transcripts. They will likely refer you to a website or ask for your mailing address so they can send you a request form. Due to the sensitive nature of these documents, some districts will require a written request and will not be able to honor a phone call or email request.

    • 3

Fill out the form and provide all the necessary information. This can include your name as it appeared on your diploma and the last year you attended school. Make sure you provide a current address where they can get the transcripts to you in a timely manner. Some schools will need a nominal processing fee as well.

Send in the form and wait. You may be able to expedite the process by requesting, and paying for, express mail service or by going directly to the school district office that holds your records. An administrative assistant at the school may be able to help you get your records faster.
