Retain memories of the present to be shared with those in the future. Start your own picture book or books depicting special times in your life. Create a picture book of the birth of a child and add pictures as the child grows. Save greeting cards and look back and recall who sent them to you and the memories they evoke. Picture books can be made as simple or complex as you want or as plain or elaborate depending what you can afford.

    Organize Photos and Momentos

  1. Step 1

Decide if you want to create your picture book in an album or scrapbook and select the subject matter. Decide if the picture book should contain pictures of greeting cards received that held a special meaning in your life. Perhaps your book should contain birthday party invitations, gift cards or photographs of a child that begins at infancy and continues through the years.

  2. Step 2
Save pictures or souvenirs of specific events.
Save pictures or souvenirs of specific events.

Search for pictures that relate to the specific occasion and subject matter of your picture book. Put them in order by year, month and/or specific event or events. Jot down the names of family members, pets or anything or anyone who is in the picture on a sticky pad. Paste the sticky to the back of each picture. This is important so that anyone looking at pictures in the future will know what the picture is about, who it is about and the date of the event and anything specifically memorable.

  3. Step 3

Use an accordion folder to store and organize the pictures according to the date. Keep adding pictures of more recent dates to the folder as they are taken. Just because the album is for pictures does not mean that you can not also add any keepsakes of the times and add those also to the picture book.

  4. Step 4
Keep the photos safe and by dates.
Keep the photos safe and by dates.

Purchase as many accordion folders and albums as needed to make different picture books. Save tickets from shows you have seen, places you have visited, restaurants you have dined in or match boxes from hotels you have stayed in. Souvenirs from travels and photographs of your trips will also create a picture book.

  5. Step 5

Organize all pictures by dates taken. Organize mementos of specific times by place and year. Use separate accordion folders to hold them so they do not get lost or mixed with other pictures. Put the folders in a safe place until you find the time to actually sit down and create the picture books.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep the file folders separate for each picture nook. Make sure to put a date and event on the back of each picture or souvenir. Organize photos using an online picture album software. Picture books can also be created on a computer that might a include a slide show.
