How to Make a Protein Smoothie

If you are looking for a powerhouse snack, or meal, that is filled with vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and protein, smoothies are it. It can be daunting to think about all the fruit and vegetables we are supposed to eat every day in order to fulfill our daily "Pyramid" recommendations. The truth is, most of us don't even come close to eating our allotted servings per day. That is why making a smoothie out of frozen fruits, protein powder, and healthy fats is a genius way to get multiple servings of fruit out of the way in a fast, easy and low-calorie way.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • frozen fruit
  • protein powder or non-fat yogurt
  • peanut butter or flax seed oil
  • non-fat milk or soy milk
  • banana
  1. Step 1

    Add one to two scoops of protein powder, or 1/2 cup non-fat yogurt, to bottom of blender. Pour in 1/2 cup non-fat milk or soy milk. Remember, you can always add more milk later if needed to obtain the perfect texture of smoothie.

  2. Step 2

    Add 1 cup of frozen fruit,any fruit will do. By using frozen fruit we avoid having to add ice to the smoothie. Add one banana. Add 1 Tablespoon of either peanut butter or flax seed oil, depending on the flavor of smoothie you are going for. And blend!

  3. Step 3

    Any frozen fruit will do for your smoothie. There are endless possibilities as far as flavors go with making protein smoothies. You may even find that you like a chocolate flavored protein powder, paired with frozen bananas for a truly delicious, but guilt-free treat. Making smoothies is a great way to fill up on fiber, protein and healthy fats, while getting a few servings of fruit into your daily diet.

Tips & Warnings
  • peeled bananas can be frozen and used in smoothies. This is a great way to make use of those old bananas that you would normally just toss into the trash can.
  • Make sure to read the labels on the protein powders that you purchase. Ensure that they are low in sugar and low in saturated fats.
