How Do I Make Baby Shower Favors that Are Edible?
Send every guest home with an edible bouquet of cookies, shaped to look like a variety of baby items. Use your favorite store bought sugar cookie recipe for easy to prepare favors and then decorate them with colorful royal icing in colors that coordinate with the baby shower's color scheme. Things You'll Need
- Packaged cookie mix
- Mixing bowl
- Plastic wrap
- Flour
- Rolling pin
- Baby-themed cookie cutters (onesies, bottles, etc)
- Wooden skewers
- Baking sheet
- 4 cup icing sugar
- 3 tbsp. meringue powder
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- Electric mixer
- Food coloring
- Pastry bag
- Small round icing tip
- Cellophane wrap
- Ribbon

Prepare the store bought sugar cookie mix in a large mixing bowl according to the cookie mix's instructions. Wrap the cookie dough in plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.

Cover your clean working surface with a light sprinkling of flour. Place the dough on your surface and roll it out. Make the dough about 1/4-inch thick.

Cut out shapes from the cookie dough using cookie cutters, shaped like onesies, baby bottles, rattles and teddy bears.

Insert one end of a wooden skewer into each cookie and place the cookies about 1.5 inches apart on a baking sheet. Bake the cookies according to the cookie mix's instructions and then allow them to cool completely.

Prepare the royal icing when the cookies are almost cool. Pour 4 cups of icing sugar and 3 tbsp. of meringue powder into a mixing bowl and mix thoroughly. Pour in 1/2 cup of warm water and 1 tsp. of vanilla extract into the mixing bowl and beat the mixture on high speed for about 6 minutes. The icing in ready when it forms stiff peaks as you mix.

Divide the icing into three or four small bowls and add your choice of food coloring. Spoon the royal icing into a pastry bag with a small round icing tip and outline some of the cookies. Use different colored icing to decorate some of the cookies.

Wrap each cookie in a piece of cellophane wrap and tie the wrap closed beneath the cookie with a piece of ribbon.

Gather a couple of the cookies together and tie a ribbon around the skewers.
