Need to grab attention without having to scream and shout? Whether you are hailing a cab, or coaching a team, this step-by-step guide to whistling is sure to get you noticed.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mouth
  • Tongue
  • Two index fingers
  • Two middle fingers
  • Saliva
  • Breath of air
  1. Step 1

Lick your lips and get them moist.

  2. Step 2

Press your lips tightly over your teeth. This should create the look of having no teeth.

  3. Step 3

Hold the position from step 2. Using your index and middle fingers from each hand, fold your tongue backwards.

  4. Step 4

Maintain the position created thus far. Make sure that all four fingers are pressed together tightly, creating a v-shape. It should look like an arrow pointing towards your mouth. Do not leave any space for air to escape.

  5. Step 5

Maintain the position created thus far. Pull your cheeks in and make the inside of your mouth airtight.

  6. Step 6

Take a deep breath and blow air out of your mouth. Do not force it too hard.

  7. Step 7

You should create a whistle sound! It may take a few tries, but you will get it. Keep practicing and you will learn to make your whistle even louder.

Tips & Warnings
  • Once you have mastered this whistle, try it using your thumb and index fingers from one hand (creating an oval shape).
  • This works very well for teachers, coaches, and parents.
