Things You'll Need:
- Old CDs
- Glue
- Fabric
- Lace Strips
-
Step 1
The first step to making drink coasters from old CDs is to gather up all the CDs that you no longer use or need. Put them in one place where you have complete and easy access to them.
-
Step 2
Now, you must gather a couple of supplies. These supplies include fabric that you choose, lace to match the fabric, as well as glue that is appropriate for crafts and fabric. I would suggest purchasing the glue that is referred to as “No Sew” as it is designed to work on all types of fabrics.
-
Step 3
No, place a piece of fabric with the design facing down on a surface. Once this is done, lay a CD on top of the fabric and trace the CD design onto the fabric so that the shape may be cut out.
-
Step 4
No, remove the CD and place it on another area of the fabric and trace it like you did in step three. This works to ensure that you have a piece of fabric for the front side of the CD, as well as the back side.
-
Step 5
Now that you have two pieces of fabric for each CD, take the glue and place it on the surface of the front side of the CD. Once the face of the CD is covered in glue, put the back side of the fabric down on top of it – pressing hard to ensure that it is securely on the CD.
-
Step 6
Now, turn the CD over and perform the same steps as in step five. Place glue on the surface, then place the back side of the fabric over the CD – pressing hard to ensure that it is securely on the CD.
-
Step 7
Now, allow your CD a few minutes to dry.
-
Step 8
As the CD is drying, measure the outside of the CD using measuring tape. Then, cut two pieces of lace that is the same size.
-
Step 9
Now, take the glue and place the lace around the outer rim of the CD. Once completed, turn the CD over and place the lace on the other side like you did on the first side.
-
Step 10
Allow the CD to completely dry. Now, you have created a decorative coaster from an old CD. Repeat the same steps on additional CDs to make a coaster set. You may use the coasters in your home, or give them as a gift.
