Instructions
-

1
Locate a comfortable red shirt and pants, a black shirt and pants. This will be the body of the ladybug costume.
-
2
Decide how large you want the ladybug wings. You and your child can make this decision together. Don't make them too large or they will be awkward and uncomfortable.
-
-
3
Draw and cut a large circle out of a piece of cardboard or poster board to create the wings. If the cardboard or poster board is not large enough, piece two half circles together. This step creates the wings for the ladybug costume.
-
4
Cut a piece of black fabric or felt the same size or 1/2 inch smaller than the piece cut in the above step. This will cover the seams and overlap created in a later step for the ladybug wings. Put this piece to the side to use in a later step.
-
5
Lay the red fabric or felt on a flat surface. Place the cardboard piece created in the above step on the material. Cut around the piece leaving 1 to 1 1/2 inch excess for overlap. Remove the cardboard and spray the material with fabric adhesive. Carefully put the piece created in the above step in place, with fabric overlap on all sides.
-
6
Fold the overlap the fabric carefully onto the opposite side of the cardboard. Cut slits in 1 to 2 inch intervals to make the folding process easier.
-
7
Take the piece of black fabric cut in Step 4, spray the wrong side with fabric adhesive and attach. This covers the overlap and seams of the red fabric -- creating a finished look.
-
8
Cut black circles of various sizes and attach with glue to red surface of the ladybug wings.
-
9
Attach the wings to the shirt by sewing in place or by using wide black ribbon. Make sure the wings are securely attached, will not be awkward or inhibit movement.
-
10
Attach black pipe cleaners to a headband by folding them in half, and twisting upward. Attach the red pom-poms to the pipe cleaners with glue.
-
11
Add other decorations and accessories as desired to finish the costume.
