1
Talk to people. To track down news stories you have to be have very good social skills or at the very least know to whom to talk. Bars may not be all that good a place to find information, but private businesses and public meeting places are.
-
2
Check current news sources. This includes newspapers, but also a nearby library's collection of local and regional magazines and newsletters.
-
-
3
Know the subject. Talk to people and professionals related to the story. A local college's faculty directory is useful.
-
4
Search public records. Visit the local historical society, courthouse or city hall for available public records.
-
5
Seek individuals who are part of the story or know someone who is.
-
6
Watch the local news on TV or check the station's website. Additional information sometimes appears on a station's website because there was insufficient time for the broadcast story.
