1. Compare the accuracy of the meters. Analog models show limited moisture levels with a less accurate reading than digital models. Digital models show levels from 0 percent to 40 percent compared to 10 percent to 28 percent advertised by some analog models.

2. Take note of how the meter acquires moisture levels. Some meters have long, coiled cables that contain sensors to reach difficult areas.

3. Compare models. Some digital models have a low-battery indicator and provide a considerable advantage over those with analog displays.
