Installing regular cabinets that abut each other in a corner isn't usually the best strategy, as it becomes difficult to reach the corner through the cabinet. Corner cabinets are a much better solution. However, the deepest part of a corner cabinet is nearly twice that of the regular wall cabinet, which makes them a little more difficult to install.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Carpenter's level
  • Stud finder (or hammer)
  • Wood shims (if needed)
  • Variable speed drill
  • Philips head screw tip
  • 2 ½-inch drywall screws
  1. Step 1

Measure up from the floor in the corner where you're installing the cabinet and make a mark at 54 inches. Place the carpenter's level on the mark and draw a line on both walls that make the corner.

  2. Step 2

Locate the studs in the wall with a stud finder, or lightly tap with a hammer until the sound changes. Install screws in the studs on the level line.

  3. Step 3

Place the corner cabinet on the wall and let it rest on the screws. Check the ends of the cabinet to be certain it is flush against both walls. If needed, use shims to keep the cabinet from rocking or moving.

  4. Step 4

Secure the cabinet. Find the nailing strip inside the cabinet and drive a 2½-inch drywall screw into a stud as close to the corner as possible. Place the level on the front of the cabinet to be certain it is plumb. Adjust the cabinet if necessary.

  5. Step 5

Finish securing the corner cabinet with the 2½-inch drywall screws, using as many studs as possible. Two screws per stud will do---place one near the top of the cabinet and one near the bottom.

Tips & Warnings
  • If another person is available to help, ask him to hold the corner cabinet in place while you secure it to the wall. Removing the doors from wall cabinets reduces their weight, which makes them easier to install.
  • Do not leave power tools unattended in the presence of children. Do not allow children to stand under the corner cabinet while it is being installed.
