The fog lights on a Chevy HHR help to provide supplemental lighting for the truck at night or during heavy fog. While the HHR may or may not have come with fog lights when you purchased it, you can install fog lights on the truck. Because the truck has a factory wiring harness ready to accept the lights, you simply need to fun the wiring from the fog lights to the wiring harness and install the housing units.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Socket wrench with socket set
  • Philips head screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Automotive cutting tool
  • Zip-ties
  • Fog light kit
  1. Step 1

Remove the screws and plastic rivets holding the bumper to the frame in the front with a screwdriver.

  2. Step 2

Remove all of the plastic rivets that hold the inner wheel lining to the bumper by prying up on them with a flat head screwdriver and pull the bumper off the frame.

  3. Step 3

Pull the bumper off and lay it on a soft surface.

  4. Step 4

Remove the plastic placeholders on the bumper made for the fog lights. You may have to cut the tabs holding the placeholder to the bumper with a knife.

  5. Step 5

Insert the fog light housing assembly into the bumper and secure the housing to the bumper with the supplies screws.

  6. Step 6

Connect the electrical plugs to the fog lights. There will be a plug on each end of the fog light wiring harness. The 1-pin connector runs to the cabin as the control switch, so you need to orient the wiring harness for the fog lights so that it is located on the driver side of the bumper.

  7. Step 7

Secure the wiring harness to the bumper with zip-ties.

  8. Step 8

    Re-install the bumper.

  9. Step 9

Route the wiring harness through the engine bay towards the firewall. Secure the ground wire to the frame in the engine bay with the supplied grounding bolt.

  10. Step 10

Run the wiring harness from the engine bay into the passenger cabin through the rubber grommet in the firewall and open the fuse box.

  11. Step 11

Connect the 6-pin connector into the free 6-pin empty slot in the fuse box.

  12. Step 12

Remove the placeholder for the fog light switch. You'll need to reach up behind the dash to push the placeholder out.

  13. Step 13

Insert the fog light switch into the dash from behind the dash.

  14. Step 14

Plug the remaining 1-pin electrical connector into the back of the fog light switch.

  15. Step 15

Bolt the switch ground wire to the frame inside the passenger cabin. Remove an existing grounding, slide the grounding wire connector under the grounding bolt, and then re-tighten the bolt.
