Things You'll Need:
- Expertise in at least one subject
-
Step 1
Contact local schools to find out if they are willing to advertise you as a tutor. You need a certain level of expertise in any subject that you intend to tutor in. Math, science and foreign languages are most in demand.
-
Step 2
Advertise yourself as a computer specialist if you have the relevant skills. You can repair computers, help customers get networks set up and install new software for customers at less than what an electronic store help desk might charge. By keeping flexible hours and being willing to come to the work instead of requiring people to bring the computers to you, you can generate great business. Also, with low prices and a few cheap business cards, you can drum up word-of-mouth business as well.
-
Step 3
Find out if local businesses are interested in a contact errand runner. A business that uses a local printer, for example, may need a driver between their office and the printer. A law office may need a courier between their office and the local courthouse. Get creative with the opportunities, and charge a reasonable per-mile fee.
-
Step 4
Post flyers around your neighborhood advertising yourself as a sitter for kids if you are good with them, or for animals and houses. You need to be responsible and reliable. For a boost, ask your first customers for written testimonials to show prospective clients.
