How to Repair Kenmore Electric Range Door

Over time and a lot of use, you may find it necessary to repair the door on your Kenmore oven. Instructions

    • 1

      Disconnect the power supply to the Kenmore electric range by unplugging it from the wall outlet.

      Open the door about halfway and insert a screw or a nail in the open hole on the hinge hangars on each side of the door. Close the door as far as the screw or nail will allow.

      Grasp the door at the sides and lift up as far as it will go and then toward you. Do not grab the door by the handle as this could break the handle.

      Remove the old door gasket on the face of the oven door opening by pulling the gasket clips out with a pair of pliers. Remove any kinks from the new gasket and starting from the bottom left insert the mounting clips to the oven. Work in a clockwise rotation until the gasket is completely installed.

      Remove the two screws at the inside top of the door that hold the inner liner to the outside door using a screwdriver. Lift up the inside liner and remove the two screws that hold the handle to the door using a screwdriver. Set the old handle out of the way.

      Remove the top trim from the door by pushing it off with your fingers. Stand the door up on its bottom.

      Slide the old glass out of the top of the door by lifting it straight up. Insert the new glass panel by sliding it between the tracks in the door.

      Line up the new door handle and secure it to the door using the attaching screws. Slide the top trim back over the top of the outer door panel.

      Reattach the door liner to the outer door using the two attaching screws.

      Grasp the door on each side and position it over the door hinges. Set it down over the hinges and push in and up until the hinges fasten back onto the oven door. Lower the door fully and maneuver back and forth until the hinges securely lock onto the door.

      Remove the screw or nail that was put into the hinges. Close the door and check the seal with the new gasket. Adjust if necessary. Plug the range back into the wall outlet.
