Shopping carts are used by just about anyone who goes grocery shopping. Small children usually sit in built-in seat of the shopping cart. There is no way of knowing what kinds of germs may be all over the cart. Children sometimes chew on the handle or wipe their noses with their hands and touch the carts. Keeping your children safe from the bacteria on the carts is very important for the health of the entire family. You can make a seat cover for shopping carts to keep your child from contact with the cart, while still allowing them to use the convenient seat.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 foot by 3 foot baby blanket
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Fabric pen
  • Optional- sewing machine
  1. Step 1

Fold your blanket in half. Two inches from your fold, use your fabric pen to draw two six inch by six inch squares, four inches apart.

  2. Step 2

Use your scissors to cut out the squares you have just drawn.

  3. Step 3

Cut one inch diagonal slits at the corners of each square. This should allow the fabric to be folded back to create your hems. Pin the hems in place.

  4. Step 4

Sew the hems you have just created. You can sew them by hand, or with a sewing machine. The finished holes will be for your child's legs when he/she is sitting in the cart. The rest of the blanket can be draped over the handle, and back of the cart.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use fun patterns to keep your child interested while you shop. If you have advanced sewing abilities, attach a soft toy to the fabric that lays over the cart handle.
  • This seat cover is only intended for use in a sturdy seat, it should never be used to carry a child or support their weight in any way.
