Choose a blitz play in the play selection screen. The playbooks for the teams differ, but you can choose variations of zone blitzes and man-to-man blitzes. Some options include the all-out blitz, 3-4 blitz, 4-3 blitz, slant blitz and corner blitz. Some blitzes allow easier access to the QB through the middle, while others work better if you move in from around the end.

Decide which defensive player you are going to control in the pre-snap screen. Outside linebackers and defensive ends are often the best choices, but make sure you pick a fast player and move him to an open position on the line. Bring your free safety and other linebackers in close to the line of scrimmage as well; this confuses the offense and allows you to get through faster.

Rush your player towards the quarterback immediately after the ball is snapped. Hit the sprint button to increase your chances of reaching the QB before he throws.

Use the left or right swim move to get away from any blockers. This move works best when it's performed right before before contact.
