Hooking up a wireless internet router can be mind boggling and time consuming to someone who lacks the knowledge and understanding of how a wireless internet router works. I created this article after hooking up my wireless internet router to make your process a little bit more easier. This article will give you the exact instructions for hooking up a wireless internet router.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wireless Internet Router.
  • A phone line
  • A phone line splitter adapter.
  • two ethernet cables
  • A wireless internet adapter installed on your computer.
  1. Step 1

Installation of a wireless internet router.

The first step before you even order wireless internet service is to make sure that you have a wireless internet adapter installed on your computer. If not you can download one or buy one. Most newer computers come equipped with the wireless internet adapters.

  2. Step 2

Next, when you get your wireless internet router and kit, make sure that you have all of the necessary parts to do the installation. Remove the parts from the box and separate them by item. You should have the wireless internet router, a couple if ethernet cables, a small phone line and phone cables, splitters and adapters.

  3. Step 3

Next, set up the wireless internet router next to a phone jack and stand it upright.

  4. Step 4

Next, insert one of the phone splitter adapters to the phone jack. This is so that your wireless internet router and your phone line can run at the same time from the same source.

  5. Step 5

Next, insert the phone line to the phone line port of the phone splitter adapter.

  6. Step 6

Next, insert the wireless ethernet line to the wireless ethernet port of the phone splitter adapter. You should now have the phone splitter adapter inserted in the phone jack and both the phone line and the wireless internet line hooked to the phone splitter adapter.

  7. Step 7

Next, run the phone line that you hooked to the phone splitter adapter to the back of your phone.

  8. Step 8

Next, run the wireless ethernet line that you hooked to the phone splitter to the designated place on back of the wireless internet router.

  9. Step 9

Next, plug in your power source cable to the designated place on the back of the wireless internet router and then plug it up to the electrical outlet and turn the wireless internet router on. You should see all of the lights flashing. Wait until the lights shave stopped flashing and have all turned green. This means that everything is hooked up correctly and is ready for service.

  10. Step 10

Lastly, go to your computer and pull up your wireless internet adapter window and click on the "searching for wireless network" button. The wireless internet adapter on your computer should now pick up your new wireless internet router. Open up your browser and start using the internet with fast wireless internet speed.

Tips & Warnings
  • If all of the lights keep flashing, then the wires could be crossed.
  • Some wireless internet routers have different color lights. The main thing is that you want the internet light, the wireless light and the power source light to be the same color and not blinking. This means that the wireless internet router is working properly.
