Do you know someone who constantly deals with headaches and often says "I'd do anything to get rid of this headache"? Here are some techniques to help them get their wish!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Have your patient lay face up on a flat surface where you can comfortably rub their head, neck and shoulders. (A bed off the floor is ideal, so you can kneel or sit in a chair and be comfortable as well). You will be sitting above their head so when you look down you see their face.

  2. Step 2

Put your hand on their forehead so your fingers are touching and their forehead is covered. Push down slightly with your finger tips and pull outward to their ears. You can make small circles with your fingers a few times after you have done this move.

  3. Step 3

After that has been done about 10 times place your fingers in the same position as before but so your fingers are just under the eye brows. Pull to the side again and instead of going to the ears to end the stroke end at the temples (where the jaw attaches and opens and closes)Put a little more pressure here and work small circles with your fingers.

  4. Step 4

To end do light strokes with your finger tips in small circles up and down the side of the face. This is merely to relax. Often sometimes all the person with a headache needs to do is take time to let their mind stop racing. In order to do that be as relaxing as you can for them, tell them to take deep breaths and their only job is to RELAX!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to emphasize the deep breathing for your patient.
  • Check in with them and ask how the pressure is that your putting on them. If you put too much it may only aggravate the headache. Start off light and add more pressure as you see fit to help them, not hurt them.
  • This is merely what I do for loved ones with headaches. This will not cure any type of medical condition, nor should it be replaced by any medical advise. This is only a helpful hint as something you can try to get rid of a common headache.
