Step 1
Know where you get sick. Some people are okay with planes, but terrible in cars. Other people are exactly the opposite, while others still will get sick if they so much as watch the hands on a clock move. Prevention is the best way to deal with motion sickness, so as often as possible, admit to yourself when an activity is going to bring it along for the ride.
-
Step 2
Sit in the front seat of cars if you are able, and if cars are one of your causes of sickness. Do not read and do not play hand held games. Keep your eyes and head forward. This makes travel boring, but at least it doesn't make it sickening.
-
Step 3
When planes are landing, taking off, or turbulent, that is when they are at their worst. If you feel you can read in planes, STOP during any of these conditions. You will regret it otherwise.
-
Step 4
Motion Sickness Bracelets CAN be effective, but need to be put on about an hour before motion sickness sets in to truly work well for most (leading many people to believing they don't work). These bracelets apply pressure to a point on your wrist, like acupuncture, but without needles.
If you find that this method works well for you, you can ease sneaky motion sickness by applying pressure to your wrists with your fingers in a pinch. -
Step 5
Eat beforehand-- motion sickness HURTS on an empty stomach. It's not pleasant in any condition, but don't make it worse than it has to be. Also stay hydrated, and bring plenty of water in case you do toss your cookies. Dehydration on top of motion sickness is not a combination you want to play with.
-
Step 6
Another reason to eat is because it will help you digest ginger pills. Ginger is a proven remedy for motion sickness, but works far better if you take it before you're already getting sick. Take ginger pills with your last meal before you travel.
-
Step 7
Ginger snaps or ginger ale can also calm motion sickness if it sneaks up on you, and are delicious snacks besides. Ginger ale is especially helpful as the carbonation will encourage burping. Burping can relieve feelings of nausea.
