Pick Up A Newborn Baby
Pick Up A Newborn Baby
By APatterson from www.sxc.hu

Newborn babies are so teeny and soft that many people are afraid to pick them up because they think the baby might break! While babies are a little fragile, they are not as hard to handle as many people think. But it is important to know exactly how to pick up a newborn.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • You
  • A baby
  1. Step 1

Start by sliding one of your hands underneath of the newborn baby's head. Your hand should cover part of the neck and the head.

  2. Step 2

Take your other hand and slide it beneath the baby's bottom. Now both of your hands should be beneath the baby supporting both the baby's head and bottom.

  3. Step 3

Gently lift the baby towards your chest and slide the hand that is behind his head gently around his body so that you are cradling him. Pull the baby close to your chest and now support the baby's head and neck in the crook of one of your elbows.

  4. Step 4

Always support the baby's head and neck and never let it fall loosely.

  5. Step 5

Walk carefully and slowly if you are just learning how to hold an infant. Sit in a chair until you are comfortable holding the baby while you are standing.
