If you love shellfish....... and you crave pizza.......

Why not put them together for a succulent shellfish pizza?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 pound peeled and deveined shrimp and/or crab, lobster, crawdad meat
  • 1 medium Vidalia onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • One large (16 ounce) can tomatoes
  • One 8 ounce package Feta or other white cheese, sliced
  • One large prepared pizza crust, your choice of crust style
  • 1 tsp Oregano
  • 1 tsp Basil
  1. Step 1

Sauté shrimp and/or lobster and crawdad meat in olive oil, just until opaque. These meats will continue to cook on the pizza, so do not overcook during this step.

If adding lump crab, which needs even less cooking, sauté for just a few moments, just enough really to coat with olive oil.

Remove to a plate until ready to add to pizza.

  2. Step 2

In the same saucepan, with a little additional olive oil, sauté one medium onion, thinly sliced or chopped and three cloves minced garlic until just beginning to tender.

  3. Step 3

Add to the sautéed vegetables a sixteen ounce can of tomatoes, with one tablespoon each of oregano and basil.

Simmer to thicken, approximately fifteen minutes. Stir occasionally and slightly break up tomatoes.

***If desired, add a small can of tomato paste for greater heartiness.

  4. Step 4

Spread thickened tomatoes and sauce over pizza crust.

  5. Step 5

Distribute sliced cheese evenly over sauce and crust.

  6. Step 6

Add your choice of prepared seafood ingredients.

  7. Step 7

    Drizzle olive oil over all.

  8. Step 8

Bake at 400 degrees for approximately 20 minutes.

The crust should be nicely browned at the edges, the cheese melted and seafood ingredients sizzling and just golden.

  9. Step 9

Cut with a pizza cutter, or just break off pieces, and serve piping hot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add lump crab meat, canned or fresh, crawdad meat or lobster, as well as shrimp for a mixed seafood pizza.
  • For party guests or for those preferring a single topping use multiple single-serve pizza crusts. Add to each all the basic ingredients, but with different seafood toppings. Makes a great appetizer!
  • For an attractive finish garnish with parsley or with fresh basil leaves.
  • On the side serve freshly tossed salad with an olive oil dressing.
  • For quicker preparation substitute prepared pizza sauce for the fresh tomato sauce.
  • Flatbread may be substituted for pizza dough for a very thin and crispy pizza.
  • For a tasty, no-tomato alternative, substitute prepared horseradish mixed with a little mayonnaise and dijon mustard.
  • Highly habit forming!

on 10/11/2009 This reminds me of Uno's deep dish seafood pizza but it only had shrimp and some veggies. This recipe looks much better. I wish they sell this somewhere since I'm busy writing and reading eHow articles :)

on 9/15/2009 I had to laugh when I saw the title of this article. Until I was 12 years old, I believed that pizza came either as a pie or on the half-shell. This is because my father told me this when I was 3, and I didn't know he was joking.
