3. Schedule a lesson with the teacher you selected. After the lesson is completed, evaluate the experience. Decide what you liked and disliked about the lesson and instructor. If the piano lesson and instructor meet your expectations, schedule lessons on a regular basis.

4. Supplement piano lessons by taking time to learn how to read sheet music. Use resources such as music stores, libraries and the Internet. Topics you will want to become familiar with include the structure of sheet music, the notes, lines, spaces, timing and symbols.
