How to Clean an iPod Wheel
Dirt and fingerprints are easily noticeable on an iPod with a white Click Wheel, but the wheel is a delicate piece of technology that you must be careful in cleaning. It serves as a touch pad, which consists of electrical current and mechanics that you do not want to harm.

1
Turn off your iPod and turn on the Hold button so you do not accidentally switch on the power while cleaning.
-
2
Dip a cotton swab or ball in 80 percent isopropyl alcohol, or rubbing alcohol found at any drugstore, and squeeze off any excess. You may also use a lint-free cloth.

3
Lightly rub the cotton swab, ball, or cloth over the Click Wheel until the dirt or fingerprints have disappeared. If this does not work, consider using a small amount of glass cleaner on a new cotton swab instead.

4
Dry the Click Wheel by wiping it with a dry hand towel.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure to squeeze out every last drop of alcohol or glass cleaner; any excess dripping from the cotton swabs or cloth will get into the iPod and damage the hardware. Purchase a protective iPod cover to prevent the wheel from getting dirty in the future.
Do not use Lysol or a similar alternative; the chemicals are too abrasive for the delicate wheel. Avoid using paper towels, as they are too rough and may scratch the wheel or may leave lint behind.
