How to Heal After Broken Trust

How to Heal After Broken Trust thumbnail
Feel free to cry after somebody has broken your trust.

It can be one of the most hurtful things in the world when somebody who you care about breaks your trust. Whether it is a spouse, a significant other or a friend, a broken trust is very hard to cope with. You may feel pain for quite some time, but by following a few steps and giving yourself time, you will eventually feel like yourself again. Unfortunately, you cannot rush the healing process.

Instructions

    • 1

Give yourself time to heal. Be patient and let yourself cry if you need to.

    • 2

Get your feelings out. Speak to someone who you trust and talk it out. If you don't feel like talking, write it down in a journal just to get your feelings out in the open.

    • 3

Talk to the person who broke your trust and allow him to commit to never breaking your trust again, if you are willing to move past it.

    • 4

Speak openly to the person who broke your trust and let her know what she did specifically to hurt you. Let her know that this behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated again.

    • 5

Accept partial responsibility if you are at fault in any way. Let the other party know that you are partially to blame as well, and discuss how you can avoid this happening again in the future.

Tips & Warnings

  • Feel free to seek professional advice from a therapist if you can't get past the sad feeling.
