A cold virus can last for several days or several weeks. But fortunately, there are ways to quickly ease symptoms and recovery faster.

  1. Step 1

    Rest. Sleep eight hours a night and limit activity to strengthen your immune system and overcome the infection.

  2. Step 2

    Buy cold medication. Take a decongestant, pain reliever or cough suppressant to relieve symptoms.

  3. Step 3

    Get plenty of vitamin C. A proven immune system booster, drink plenty of orange juice and take vitamin C capsules to fight the common cold and speed healing.

  4. Step 4

    Experiment with other supplements. In addition to vitamin C, zinc and echinacea improves the immune system quickly and relieves cold symptoms. Take zinc lozenges, echinacea capsules or drink echinacea tea to treat a cold

  5. Step 5

    Get a humidifer. Use a humidifier to break-up mucus and clear congestion. Eating chicken soup also thins mucus in the chest and helps stop a chronic cough.
