Choose The Right Ramset Tools

Ramset makes some great powder actuated tools, here's how to choose the right one.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first step is choosing the right Ramset tools for the job is knowing what you would like to accomplish. Don't just grab the cheapest one you find on the shelf, some just won't hold up to regular use.

  2. Step 2

If you just need to fur out your basement and that's it, a HS22 should get you through. These tools are considered through away tools and no parts are available for them. But if you just have a small project, they will fit the bill. If you are a contractor, you will be very disappointed when they break, and they will break and you can't get them fixed.

  3. Step 3

A very nice all around choice in Ramset tools is the Ramset Cobra. This is a clone of the Hilti DX350. I don't care what your Hilti rep says, it is. This tool can be used for just about anything and is fully serviceable. This is a 10 shot semi-automatic tool. ConstructionFastening.com sells extension poles for these tools to shoot to the ceiling. The Ramset SA270 tool is a higher quality version of this tool and has power adjustment.

  4. Step 4

The most durable Ramset tools is the D45-A. This is a 10 shot disc tool that will hold up in tough situations like shooting foam to concrete, shooting through fire proofing, steel or any inconsistent material. This tool to can also be mounted on an extension pole.

  5. Step 5

If you shoot directly to the ceiling, hands down the best of the Ramset tools for the job is the Ramset Viper. This tool is a 10 shot semi-automatic strip tool. This tool must be fired on an extension pole. This is the best tool out there in my onpinion for ceiling work. Remember, it only shoots to the ceiling. You can get a telescopic pole tool for this tool called the Lagmaster plus that will accommodate the Viper plus let you install to other types of ceilings with interchangeable plugs.

  6. Step 6

When you need Ramset tools, do your research and choose the right tool for the job. While you can find them at most big box stores a Ramset Dealer will not only help you choose the right Ramset tool, but they can train you and supply you with factory replacement parts to keep you going.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy the right tool the first time.
  • Always wear safety glasses.
  • Always wear hearing protection.
  • Get certified on the tool.
