Step 1
Clothing. Find a warm shawl or a winter coat to go with your gown. Do not forget about shawls for your bridesmaids. They can be rented, purchased or made for you to match your style and colors.
For shoes, go for a close-toed style. Buy a pair of white snow boots that you can change in and out when traveling between venues. -
Step 2
Travel. Leave extra time for travel. If the roads are wet and/or slippery it will make driving slower. If there is snow and/or wind to reduce the visibility, that will make driving slower. Leaving extra time will make the traveling safer and make the entire day less stressful because you will not feel rushed. If it ends up being a clear day, the extra time allotted for driving can be substituted into more photos or time to just relax!
-
Step 3
Parking. If guests will be driving to the reception space, consider valet parking so that they don't have to walk far from their cars to the entrance.
-
Step 4
Location. The weather in Tahoe is unpredictable. So, if you are thinking of an outdoor ceremony it is also a good idea to have a back up plan. Look for an inn with a fireplace for your intimate winter wedding.
If snow and ice are a possibility, consider having your ceremony and reception at the same venue, saving your guests any travel trouble. -
Step 5
Pictures. Many couples love the idea of having their photographs taken outside for their wedding - even in the winter. But when the wedding day arrives sometime couples change their mind and decide to not go outside for photos because it’s too cold. So, discuss it with your Lake Tahoe wedding photographer before hand. If you plan a winter wedding and plan for outdoor photos be prepared - it will be cold. It's the winter!
-
Step 6
Time. Plan you your outdoor ceremony about two-three hours before the sunset. It gets dark early in the mountains. So, make sure your Lake Tahoe wedding photographer will have enough time for day-light pictures.
-
Step 7
Drinks. You might want to bring along a couple thermoses of warm drinks, hot chocolate, tea or coffee. Having a nice warm drink to enjoy after the photo session will warm you up.
-
Step 8
Decoration. The possibilities are unlimited! Try ice sculptures, lots of crystal, snowflakes and icicles for your winter themed wedding.
Add lots of candles for a romantic glow of your reception room. -
Step 9
Ideas. Consider traveling to your reception in a horse-drawn carriage.
-
Step 10
Flowers. Roses, calla lilies, and amaryllis are well known winter wedding flowers. But you can also use any other flowers you like. It may just be more expensive to deliver them to your winter wedding in Lake Tahoe.
