It is believed that the Waldorf Salad was first introduced in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. The original recipe was possibly never divulged, so here is my rendition of that delicious side dish.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 apples peeled and cored, then cut into tiny pieces.
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1 Tablespoon mayo
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 pinch sea salt
  • 1/4 pinch cinnamon
  • 1/8 pinch ground ginger
  • 1/4 pinch ground nutmeg
  • 10 drops fresh, lemon juice
  • 1/4 stalk fresh celery
  1. Step 1

Prepare your apples and set aside in 1 cup of cold water and 1/4 teaspoon fresh squeezed, lemon juice in a glass bowl or glass container. Make sure your water covers the apples so they do not turn brown.

  2. Step 2

Gather all your other ingredients at your kitchen counter. Select a wooden spoon or rubber maid spatula for mixing all the ingredients. Choose a glass saucepan or glass bowl for making your Waldorf Salad. Plastic might give off some tastes while you are mixing, so glass is preferred.

  3. Step 3

Combine all the ingredients, as listed, in a glass mixing bowl and mix well to completely disburse the spices. Set aside mixture while you drain apples.

  4. Step 4

Combine all the spice mixture and apples. It is best if you let it refrigerate with a tight lid for 1/2 hour. Then you are ready to serve to family and guests.
