How to Use Apple's Latest iPod
Steve Jobs made a much-anticipated appearance at Apple's "It's Only Rock and Roll" event where he (along with Phil Schiller) revealed the updated iPods. Each one in the line featuring the iPod Classic to the iPod Nano got a boost.
The iPod Classic's capacity was boosted from 120GB to 160GB, while remaining as sleek as before, and keeping the same $249 price tag.
The iPod Shuffle got a blast of color. They're now available in 2GB and 4GB versions in pink, green, blue, black and silver. It still talks to you, lets you know what song's playing and when your battery's full. The 2GB is $59 and the 4GB is $79. There's also a new stainless steel "Special Edition" shuffle going for $99.
Apple lowered the price on the 8GB iPod Touch to the "magic price point" of $199. Higher capacity iPod Touch versions are now available: 32GB for $299 & 64GB for $399. Not only has the capacity increased, but the new iPod Touch is faster with the addition of OpenGL 2.0.
What stole the show, however, were the enhancements to the iPod Nano. Not only is it available in every color of the spectrum (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet), as well as silver and black, but it now comes with a built-in video camera. Other new features include a larger 2.2-inch-screen, pedometer, Genius playlists, FM radio tuner and VoiceOver.
Here's how to use the iPod Nano's newest features.

Create up to 12 Genius mixes with iTunes 9. iTunes will be your DJ and create playlists based on genres with the music you have in your library. Sync them your iPod Nano and you'll have excellent mixes on the go.
To sync, connect your iPod to your computer with the included charge/sync cable. iTunes should launch on its own. If not, go ahead and open iTunes. Once connected, your Genius Mixes will automatically sync to your iPod Nano.

Scroll through and select the Radio option. You can use the scroll wheel to go through the stations.
Click and hold the center button to add a station to your favorites. You can also tag songs (on stations that allow iTunes tagging) for later reference.
When you sync your Nano with iTunes next time it'll show you the songs you tagged. Preview and purchase them right through iTunes.
You can also pause live radio if you get interrupted and pick up where you left off.

Let the new Nano talk to you, just like the Shuffle can. Using VoiceOver, your Nano can now announce song titles, artists and your playlists.
Just click the center button on your Nano or the controls on your Apple Earphones with Remote and it will tell you what song you're listening to.

Use your iPod Nano as a great exercise buddy. Using the new built-in accelerometer, the Nano can act as a pedometer, which records your steps.
Set fitness goals, or keep it on all the time to track every step you take.
Scroll down using the click wheel on the main menu and select Extras > Fitness > Pedometer. Enter your weight if it's the first time you're using the pedometer and click the center button to start recording your steps.
To see your previous workouts, select Extras > Fitness > History. Select a date by scrolling with the click wheel and clicking the center button. You can scroll through the months by clicking the Rewind or Fast Forward buttons.
From the Extras > Fitness > Settings menu you can set the pedometer to "Always On," create a workout goal and change your weight.

Super good details! One last thing: the new ipod nano has a built-in microphone so you can use it as a voice recorder. See my article on using this recorder feature to pull a Halloween practical joke. 5* -
